Instrumental music program

Learning an instrument is one of the most beneficial activities to a child’s development.  At Genesis we provide a quality instrumental program.

The Instrumental Music program provides specialised training and performance opportunities on a variety of instruments as well as vocally. Students perform on Mothers' Day, Grandparents' Day and yearly instrumental recitals. Year 6 students progressing into the Middle School have the opportunity to continue their involvement with String Ensemble, String Quartet, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble, including being able to join the Chapel Band.

In 2012, a 'Year 5 Band Program' was commenced for selected students in that year. They rehearse once per week in school time.

Private lessons are available before, during or after school in the following instruments:

  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Strings:  Violin, viola, cello, double bass
  • Woodwind:  flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe
  • Brass:  trumpet, trombone, euphonium
  • Orchestral percussion, including tuned percussion such as xylophone
  • Drum kit
  • Vocal (singing) lessons:  jazz, contemporary and classical styles
  • AMEB Music Theory

These lessons are held in our specially designed instrumental rooms, which are fully soundproof and air conditioned.  AMEB exams are offered for all instruments, as well as theory, and students are encouraged to take part in the College's ensembles, bands or choirs.
