Performing Arts thrive at Genesis Christian College with many opportunities for students to immerse themselves in music, acting, dancing and more.

With our own state of the art Performance Theatre, professional dance studios and extensive music rooms, our campus provides our student performers with the best facilities to grow their talents.


School Musicals

School musicals are performed biannually and provide wonderful opportunities for our Secondary students to showcase musical, acting and dancing talent in our school. Students audition for a place in the cast of each musical and participate in intensive rehearsals throughout the first semester of the school year. Our next musical will take place in 2022.


Mini, Junior and Senior Dance Companies

The Genesis Christian College Dance Companies are the College’s elite, national award winning, co-curricular performance troupes, heading into their 10th year running. The Mini, Junior and Senior companies compete in competitions and perform at a variety of school and community based events each year such as: multiple Queensland eisteddfods, Dance Life Unite Nationals in Sydney, Danc’Ed in the Spotlight, Dance Showcase and more. There are three Dance Companies:

  • Mini Dance Company (Years 5-6 students)
  • Junior Dance Company (Years 7-9 students)
  • Senior Dance Company (Years 10-12 students)

Mini Dance Company train one morning per week before school and the Junior and Senior Dance Companies train one afternoon per week and some weekends.

The Dance Companies are for those students who wish to extend their practical Dance training and have the opportunity to utilise their skills at various performances and competitions.


Movers and Shakers

Movers and Shakers is our Primary Dance troupe, featuring dancers from Years 3-6. Each year, students are invited to audition for a place in the team. The troupe rehearses during one lunch time per week and performs at Grandparents Day and Dance Showcase.


Show Choir

Show Choir is an all-singing, all-dancing performance troupe. The students rehearse during one lunch time per week and perform at various school-based and community-based events such as the the Genesis Festival, Dance Showcase, Pine Woods Aged Care Facility, Mid-Winter Melodies and more.


Shakefest

Genesis Secondary students have the opportunity to participate in a theatre competition known as Shakefest, which provides a unique opportunity for students across Queensland to focus their artistic abilities in a dynamic and creative celebration of the works of William Shakespeare. Now in its eighth year running, Shakefest, run by Shake&Stir Theatre Company, attracts over 5000 students annually to compete at regional and state level. Being a part of the Genesis Shakefest Team allows students to extend their practical drama skills and will have the added benefit of enhancing their knowledge and understanding of Shakespeare’s works.


A Night At The Theatre

A Night At The Theatre is the annual Drama performance night, in which all Secondary School Drama students have the opportunity to perform. Held mid Term 3, this evening event takes on a different theme each year and showcases the high quality work produced by the curriculum and co-curricular Drama students.


Mid-Winter Melodies

This music evening features a wide variety of musical items, including choirs, instrumental ensembles and performance groups. Primary and Secondary students are involved in this exciting evening of music performance.


Dance Showcase

Dance Showcase is the end of year concert for all curriculum and co-curricular Dance students from Years 3-12. Featuring a wide variety of performances from the national award-winning Dance Companies, Show Choir, Movers and Shakers and all Secondary Dance classes, the evening is jam-packed and showcases all there is to offer in Dance at Genesis.


Dance Camp

Dance Camp is held annually for all Mini, Junior and Senior Dance Company and Show Choir students. The three day trip is held at YMCA Warrawee Pine and includes intensive rehearsals, preparation for performances and community building.


USA Arts Tour

The USA Arts Tour is a biannual trip for Years 10-12 students, to enhance their arts education.

All students with an interest and passion in any area of the arts are invited to apply to attend the trip.

While in the United States of America, the selected team will have some outstanding, ‘once in a lifetime’ arts opportunities, including, but not limited to:

  • Broadway Classroom
  • Hollywood, Rockettes
  • Disneyland
  • Universal Studios
  • Broadway.

They will have the opportunity to go and see live performances, attend a Gospel church service and participate in specialized workshops such as special effects, dance, musical theatre, media, behind the scenes. The tour will also incorporate sightseeing opportunities such as the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, Empire State Building, ice skating in Central Park, as well as multiple public performance opportunities.

The purpose of this tour is to challenge, extend and inspire students in their arts endeavours, whilst giving them new cultural and educational experiences, outside of the classroom. All students who have a passion for the arts and travel are invited to apply for a place on the team.
