At Genesis, inter-district competition sport is offered in the Secondary School and an internal sports competition operates in the Primary School for students from Years 3 to 6. All students are encouraged to participate in the extensive sports program on offer as participation has multiple physical and social benefits.
Physical activity keeps students healthy and active, increases their cardiovascular fitness, and improves their coordination and balance. Strategic thinking is also encouraged through participation in team sports.
Socially, students get opportunities to practice inter-personal skills like, leadership, team-building, cooperation and communication. They also learn that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose which develops their ability to deal with disappointment, build resilience and continue to persevere.
Research also suggests that students who are physically active do better academically and have increased levels of self-esteem and confidence.
